TRASH

May 31, 2007 by jasondilworth

It seems like everyday there is a need to empty the trash can at my residence? Which started me thinking about what would happen if the weekly trash disposal service were to stop? It would be frightening—This happened last night and this morning I came across this article in the Times about Napoli’s rubbish problems. It is worth reading.

The material of typography is the black, and it is the designer’s task with the help of this black to capture space, to create harmonious whiteness inside the letters as well as between them.

Criticism for the 337 Project in Salt Lake City

May 27, 2007 by jasondilworth

I wish they would change the name of the project to The Shark Sandwich Project, that way all other critics could give it the appropriate two word review it deserves.

I am however impressed with it as a marketing campaign and must give Adam and Dessi Price kudos for that. This was a very nice creative way to get a few thousand people to know about your the upcoming super cool “two-car-garage-passive-solar-urban-living-lofts.” They have said that they wanted to live in a NYC type atmosphere so I guess they decided they would have to build a crack house, kick out all the artist, raise the prices, and let the yuppies move in! congratulations to them again for the completion of the crack house.

BUT! Please spare me the pain of hearing the term artist associated with this project. Of the 140+ people they have labeled artist at most 2 maybe 3 could qualify to be called such. Just as I wouldn’t qualify to be a doctor simply because I walked into a hospital with a stethoscope, so the participants of this project are as far from artist as I am from a doctor—a few more years of dedicated schooling and residency will do them some good.

And Finally My Cry to KEEP UNDERGROUND UNDERGROUND! it just isn’t pretty when one tries to bring it into the light!

Happy Memorial Day

May 25, 2007 by jasondilworth

I’m so excited for the upcoming weekend, not because the great things I have planned but rather because of the things I don’t have planned. May basically flew by beginning with a impromptu trip to San Francisco and then a steady increase of recreational activities and work. So this weekend I think I’ll take the time to get caught up on all things that I’ve put off. here is a list of some things I might do, but I’m not requiring myself to do any of them.

  • plant a vegetable garden
  • go for a climb
  • go for a bike ride
  • Clean my room
  • Pack stuff for storage
  • Work on any of my 100 projects
  • Take two naps
  • Go to the 337 project
  • Attend Two BBQs
  • Call an old friend
  • Take my canoe out
  • Watch one film
  • Read two books
  • And Update Jason Dilworth dot com

What Brothers Are For

May 20, 2007 by jasondilworth

This weekend I had the opportunity to head south to moab for a weekend with all but one of my brothers plus one sister. It has been a while since we’ve all been together and I’m left wondering why, because I haven’t laughed this much in a long time. From mid thirties to late teens we were the prime age for epics, statically that is, but this weekend didn’t break my new promise for no more epics. In between the hours of laughter we managed to ride a few trails and hit the local swimming hole. When we left moab with just a broken derailer, two broken chains, one case of “swellbow” and sun damaged skin we felt lucky.

the drop

The highlight from trip comes from our evening ride on the slickrock trail. and one location in particular. we pulled up to this ledge with in which the trails drops straight off into a very large sand box (possibly quicksand). My brief knowledge of physics and a few years of experience riding a bike lead me to verbalize my concern and wonder, “How can anyone possibly ride this and not “endo”. Not giving me time to work out the possibilities my little bro, wanting to prove his new bike calls out “Like This” and rides over the edge. For a moment I was impressed He makes the four foot drop effortlessly, but what he underestimated was the holding power of the quicksand that at this point had risen well over his axles. With all the forward momentum he continued even though his bike remained stationary. I’m laughing at this point. Once he buries himself we jump down sans bikes to get a closer look at the swirling sand and help him out. Once he’s up and smiling the laughter continues and becomes compounded when we notice that his teeth in addition to every thing else are covered with sand. Thanks EQ that could have been the best thing I’ve witnessed on a bike.

No More Epics!

May 14, 2007 by jasondilworth

No More Epics
Well the weekend is over and I didn’t catch up at all on the things I had wanted to, instead I found my creating another epic and spending the night at 9,000ft 4 hours from food, water, or a warm bed. This three day adventure began friday night a few hours behind schedule, those few hours would comeback to haunt me and my friend scott saturday evening.

The London Spire

This unusually large chunk of rock sits mysteriously and quietly in the norther Wasatch range between Ogden and Brigham City and receives very little attention. But on that rock are some of the most impressive Alpine Style rock climbs in utah. I’ve been eyeing one particular route now for several years—The Southwest Ridge. When Scott called me at the beginning of the week I said sure this will be great I needed to get out and climb more and I’d be knocking a climb off my tick list, but what I had seemed to forget was that I really hadn’t climbed in 2 years and I certainly hadn’t done anything on this large of scale, my usual form of exercise is that of the spectator or Extreme Graphic Designer which means sometime I change the mouse to the left side of the keyboard. So needless to say I wasn’t ready for everything that that mountain dished out. It was fun, but I need a weekend now. See the epic pics here.

This post has me remembering that I needed to finish writing about another epic my train journey from SLC»SFO»SLC, you can see my pics from that journey here .

HOLY CRAP I THOUGHT I WAS A NERD

May 10, 2007 by jasondilworth

While scanning through some blogrolls this evening I came across a post about new CS three icons. Then I went there. and to my suprize this page seemed to be a very popular topic with over 300 people who had posted comments about how much they loved the new icons. I mean jeez what kind of people waste their time on such a site—then I thought wait I’ve been on Adam Betts’ site twice this week. However, You & Mr. Betts should know I’ll never stoop to the level of icon augmentation, there are just some lines I won’t cross for they would be too nerdy even for me.
